Following on from our successful headline sponsorship of Ireland’s School Building Programme, we have some important information on the educational sector. Below we have some of the key points from the event, which contain some interesting figures.
Key notes
Of the €2.21 billion education sector spend; €2.075 billion will be on primary and secondary schools. €240 million will be spent on large scale projects and site acquisition. Summer works scheme is not in place this year and won’t be in the future. An emergency fund will now cover this area. A figure of €17 million has been set aside. Jonathan Bliss, Professional and Technical manager in the planning and business unit at the Department of Education and Skills said that abnormally low tenders will be excluded in the future. John Dolan, senior engineer with the Planning and Building unit at the Department of Education and Skills gave a very interesting presentation (linked below) on energy in school design and maximising nature and utilising technologies. There will be year on year increases in pupil enrolment numbers until 2017.
